Review 11/29/2010
If I could give a rating of NO STARS, I would. I only created this account for the sole purpose of writing a review of this business. First of all, Amos first spoke with my wife and assured her that the move that she specifically described (i.e., moving 1/2mi away, from a 3rd floor to a 1st floor apt, etc.) could be handled by 2 men. Through the subsequent exchange of emails a couple weeks after the first initial contact, there was no mention of a deposit until 3 days prior to the scheduled moving date. Not thinking anything of it, my wife agreed to provide the $100 deposit to reserve the truck and crew. Second, on the actual moving day, the movers were scheduled to come at 9am. About 10min after 9, my wife calls to ask where the truck is. Amos told my wife that the movers will arrive shortly. About 20min longer, still no movers. My wife spoke to Amos again and he told her that the truck ran into some problems. Finally, around 9:40am, the 2 movers arrive in a good size truck. The first person to greet me was a man named "Ben." He followed me up to the 3rd floor where my apt was and the driver came up as well to assess the apartment and the situation. After I gave them instructions to move the boxes that were already packed and ready to go first, then the 2nd bedroom, then the master bedroom last (because my wife is pregnant and was under her doctor's orders to stay in bed). Ben told me that he would need to talk to his driver and calculate how much the cost will be, even though Amos had already agreed with my wife that the cost would be $69/hr for 2 movers. So, once Ben and his driver returned a few minutes later, he told me that there was no way that the move could be accomplished with just 2 movers and that he needed to call a 3rd mover to arrive by another truck and that the cost would increase an extra $42/hr making it a total of $111/hr. We exchanged a few words that ultimately left me and my wife telling Ben and his driver to leave because that is not what was agreed on. We requested that we receive a full refund of the $100 deposit, and Ben assured us that it would be. Third, after Ben and his driver left, my wife and I received a call from Amos asking why we turned the movers away. My wife (being pregnant) attempted to be civil but stern and requested simply that this was not what was agreed on and that we require our $100 deposit back. After a few minutes, I got on the phone with Amos and argued with him that this arrangement was not what my wife agreed to. She agreed to assurances that 2 movers could get the job done no problem, that there would be no cost for wrapping furniture, and that the price would be $69/hr. I simply stated that no where in the contract that my wife signed stated anything regarding changes to the pricing, nor was there any provision stating that the $100 was NON-refundable. Amos continued to argue with me and simply state that there is a cancellation clause in the contract, however, there is no indication whatsoever in that cancellation clause that ties the $100 deposit to be forfeited if the cancellation policy was not adhered to. After arguing for about 30min, Amos stated that I needed to speak with his supervisor, did not give me a name, and transferred me to an unidentifiable voicemail. I left a detailed message requiring a call back. I called back again, and I believe that Amos answered the phone, but denied it was him when I asked who it was. I requested to speak with Amos' supervisor, and he sent me again to the same voicemail. I hung up and called again, and the same person (Amos?) picked up and said "Ben" was Amos' supervisor and refused to give me his last name. I asked for another supervisor, and he said "Jerry." (Sounds like something fishy is going on when there is a Ben and Jerry being used as supervisors to the same voicemail). We have yet to be able to resolve any of this in any sort of productive manner since this all happened this morning on Nov. 29, 2010. Regardless of whether or not we receive our $100 deposit back promptly, anyone and everyone SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR MOVING. Do your own research and you will find that just Googling this company, you will find at least 3 complaints from consumeraffairs.com, theripoffreport.com, as well as Yelp on the very first page. That should be a HUGE indicator to all who are reading this. My wife and I only wish that we would have done our research first. Moreover, the Better Business Bureau has them at a "B-" rating. Although this may not sound that bad, a "B-" rating for a company who you entrust to handle your most private and prized possessions to move from one home to the next, this slightly above average rating is just too high of a risk to take versus an "A+" mover. BOTTOM LINE: FIND A BETTER MOVING COMPANY
