My wife and I went in to Premiere Properties yesterday and went through the process including signing their contract and handing over $180.00 in cash. We were given three properties to look at and told that if we liked one of them that they would arrange for the owner to meet us for a walk-through within 72 hours. We immediately visited the first property, a three bedroom two bath home in a very nice section of Orange. We had been told that this property could be leased for $1600 a month. When we got there a worker was installing carpet so we got to see the interior of the property. It was perfect! However, there was a Tarbell Realty FOR LEASE sign on the front lawn. When we called Tarbell they told us that the property was $2600 a month and that they had never heard of Premiere Properties. Now we realize that what this company is doing is taking money from people and providing them with worthless listings that they find on the Multiple Listing website. They have no connection with the property other than that. I checked with the Orange Police Department and they said that they knew all about this company and have received numerous complaints about them.
I WAS ABLE TO GET MY $180 REFUNDED TODAY!!! Here's how I did it. Very calmly I confronted the agent in private and told him that I was very disappointed with him and his organization's honesty and integrity and that I knew what kind of a scam they were running as well as describing exactly what they were doing. Then I told him that I was giving him a chance to refund my money. Otherwise I was going to put a big dent in his business by standing on the corner sidewalk with a big sign announcing the scam and warning potential clients to stay away and that I have the time to do it. He went to get the branch manager and I repeated the same thing to him telling him that I would cost him far more than $180 in lost business. I did all of this calmly and forcefully with full intent to follow through. And, he gave me back my money.
My advice - if you're looking to rent a home go to a reputable realtor and don't ever give an organization money up front.
