We purchased a used car for my daughter last week from Huntington Beach Dodge. The negotiations were friendly, the salesman Dan was personable and very helpful, and we got a good deal on the car, which was a very clean one. Then we headed over to the finance department to sign the registration papers (we were paying cash for this car) and that is when everything went dowhill....fast!

"Clint" was the guy doing our paperwork. He started by explaining to us the benefits of the extended warranty, and said that although the "retail" price of the warranty was $1500, he'd sell it to us for $1000. Being familiar with extended warranties myself, and due to the length of the warranty, that was a pretty good deal, so we agreed.

He printed out the documents, and when he had it in front of me, his hand was covering the dollar figures, and pointing to the box where it shows the coverage afforded by the extended warranty. A bell went off in my head, I pulled the document down to read it further, and that is when I realized he was hiding something from us.

The price of the warranty mysteriously jumped to $1500! When I questioned him about it, I've never seen anyone dance so fast, LOL. First he said, "I have to put down the retail price, so if you cancel you get that amount back". I reinterated the fact he said the warranty was only $1000. Then he said that he wasn't charging us sales tax on the warranty, so that would offset the extra $500.

When I told him that I knew there was no sales tax on an extended warranty, he changed his story to "oh, the sales department told me the 'out the door price' and that's what I thought it was...." His excuses made absolutely no sense; I was getting angry knowing they were trying to pull a fast one on us, and demanded in no uncertain way that the agreed-upon amount was shown correctly.

He then threw up his hands and said, "okay, whatever you want" in such a way like he was doing us a favor! He then reprinted out the documents and I checked it carefully to be sure nothing else was out of line.

They then handed us the key...only one key was given us! I asked for the remote and the other key, which is the norm. The sales manager said they didn't have one. I then asked him why he didn't tell us that there was only one key, to which he responded, "because you didn't ask"!.

Despite this ridiculous answer from him, I asked him to please reimburse us for a remote and a key; I thought that was only fair considering what had just happened over at the finance department. He still refused, only offering a tankful of gas. Since it was late, we were tired, and I was still angry from our experience at the finance department, we took his offer and left.

Would I return to Huntington Beach Dodge for another car? If it's a hard-to-find car, probably yes, but I would be on my guard!!!! Trust NOBODY there; bring a friend or two with you to keep an eye out on things!
