Court Ordered Classes Review
|
I learned that it is okay to not be okay. I think that I have always tried to tell myself "its okay" even when I knew deep inside that it wasn't. Now, I can approach it differently and know that I have these told that I have learned in these courses to take with me and help me become a better and stronger person.
Some of the most impactful things I've learned are the classes about child abuse, child sexual abuse, and child death or killing. My two kids mean everything to me, and I want them to never have to experience what I went through as a child. The abuse can stop with me, and I have the power to change the course of my life, and ultimately theirs as well.
I also enjoyed learning about the violence domestically against men. I was a victim of domestic violence in my past relationship, and it was reassuring to know that men are now reporting more and more the violence they endure in relationships. For so long, it had always been about the woman being the victim, and now, more and more, there are men coming out and speaking up for themselves. It is never okay to be violent toward anyone, no matter their sex, race, ethnicity, color of their skin, gender identification, etc.
I know and am confident that these classes really helped encourage me to stop drinking which is something I have known I needed to do for many years now, but never had the will power or strength to do so. Quitting alcohol might very well be the hardest and most significant change I have ever made in my life. I have only experienced good things that have come from it - never anything negative.
Although these classes are geared towards domestic violence and abuse, I now understand why my parents abused me when I was younger, and why I continued the abusive pattern into my adulthood - ALCOHOL. I now realize that all of it stemmed from this single poison in my life and without removing it, I would never really change and become the person I needed to be.
I look forward to the next 26 courses and seeing how they effect me for the better. At the end of the day, I am happy to be taking these courses as they have allowed me to become a better person, and given me the tools to maintain that attitude and goal in life - be kind and treat all people with equality.
